SciPy is an conference focused on the use of Python in scientific computing. It is held annually at Caltech in Pasadena, California, USA. The main part of the conference features two days of talks. Two days of tutorials on using various scientific and visualization tools and libraries precede the talks, and Caltech hosts a day of sprints following the talks. The 2007 conference marked the first year with a significant portion of the content coming from the field of bioinformatics. Various Birds of a Feather meetings occur throughout the conference, including the annual BoF for Biology in Python.

The Saga Motor Hotel provides the best value, (around $80 a night) and good location (two blocks from campus). Less recommended is the Vagabond Inn. You can fly into various airports, but the easiest and cheapest will likely be the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). From there, you can take a Super Shuttle to Pasadena/Caltech. The Caltech stop #2 will get you closest to the Saga without incurring an extra fee, and the round trip ride will cost only around $25.
